Hand Lift

The Hand Lift Procedure

How can you really tell how old someone is? You can look at someone’s complexion and may not be entirely sure of their age. However their hands almost always tell the truth. Take a look at some of the most popular pop artist or actors. They older ones generally look great, but when you look at their hands, it’s not as attractive. As you get older, your hands lose volume, fat and elasticity. The fatty layer disappears and the skin becomes translucent and shriveled. This tends to show all the underlying structures such as bones, tendons, and veins. What’s the solution to this? Wear gloves all the time? That may not be the case many patients are now opting for a procedures called a hand lift.

What is the Hand Lift Procedure?

The hand lift procedure is a 5-10 minute procedure that involves your provider injecting synthetic fillers underneath the first layer of skin to “plump” it up. Basically it acts like the fat that has been lost during the aging process. These effects will last about a year before you will have to return and have the treatment performed again. However, it is also possible to relocate human fat from other parts of the body to the hands. Since the human fat less expensive and much more long lasting some doctors prefer this method. The fat is taken from a patient’s thighs or derriere and re-injected into the tops of their hands or even fingers. There is also much less chance of an allergic reaction or rejection from the body since it is from the donor. Many plastic surgeons are predicting that the treatment of hands will be the latest hot trend. Since the face has been so well treated and researched, the next stage is the hand and the neck.

Another treatment for the hands and skin that has become popular recently is Fraxel Laser Treatment, which is a non-surgical treatment procedure. The laser can remove diffuse wrinkling or dislocation. This can be used to treat common skin blemishes such as: sun spots, brown spots, and fine lines. The light energy stimulates collagen, and resurfaces the top skin laser. Most treatments usually last between 15-45 minutes and patients can begin seeing results within 1-5 Fraxel treatments.

However the first thing in this is prevention. One should be aware of all the constant exposure that the hand gets to environmental factors. It is recommended for patients to wear sunscreen on their hands at all times to prevent premature aging.
